Counselling Therapy Cheltenham

A Person Centred Counsellor offering you a safe, confidential space to talk about the things which you may find hard to share with anyone else in your life. You may feel that you don’t want to tell others for fear of being ‘a burden.’ You may think, ‘other people have it way worse than me.’ Regardless of what brings you to counselling, this is your lived experience and you, like everyone else, deserve and have the right to feel better.

Jan Laws, Counsellor

What you are to be, you are now becoming

Why Counselling?

People often seek counselling when they experience/have lived with:

A loss/bereavement, family or relationship issues, anxiety, sadness, depression, low confidence/self esteem, social anxiety, domestic abuse, poor attachments, sexual/physical/emotional abuse, affairs, divorce, workplace stress or redundancy, illness, the Menopause.

Feeling sadness or low in mood can cause us to no longer feel enjoyment and unable to take an interest in the people or the activities that used to bring us joy.

Lacking in confidence or having low self esteem or social anxiety can make friendships, intimate relationships and being around work colleagues very difficult. Low self esteem often makes people feel as though they are never good enough, and are therefore unable to accept or believe praise or compliments. They may compare themselves to others and focus on what they see as their weaknesses or flaws, unable to see their inner strengths or the positives in their life.

Living with a loss can be very painful and lonely, whether it be the loss of a loved one, a beloved pet, a job, good health, ageing or the loss of a friendship. Loss can leave us feeling an emptiness, or without purpose. Loss can leave us feeling alone and feeling that those around us no longer want to hear of our loss, when what we need is a listening ear and the time and space to process.

It can feel strange and unfamiliar to talk about ourselves and how we feel. Clients share that they have never known what it feels like to be anyone’s priority or feel that they matter. Clients have also shared that they cannot share or express their feelings as no one cares or because they have to present to the world that they are in control, when they actually feel overwhelmed or anxious.

I am here to listen.

Speak in confidence

Counselling can help with a range of life issues.

As an experienced, empathic counsellor I will offer a safe space where you can share, describe, explore and reflect on the difficulties in your life. Our sessions will be centred on you and I working together to find a way forward. This can look different for each individual.

Share your problems

Counselling can offer you the space to find the words for, express and connect with (maybe for the first time freely) your feelings and emotions without shame or criticism. Talking things through with me, may help you make sense of any difficulties in your life, and their meaning for you.

Feel heard

My clients tell me how beneficial it is to be able to talk to someone completely independent, who truly listens to them without judgement. Being able to share our inner world can feel like a release, helping to calm the noise and chaos in our mind. Sharing can help to un-jumble our thoughts and feelings.

Let me listen to you and be here for you.
